It’s been a hiatus of 9 long years when the last edition of the Audi Q5 was introduced into the market. The impact then was huge – in no time, it became the most popular luxury cross over and swept the market completely. The good news is: the wait is finally over and the 2018 Audi Q5 has arrived to repeat the difficult feat all over again.

In terms of style, it hasn’t gone through a makeover but then there are subtle changes if you look closer – the design’s precision makes the difference. The chassis is all new and is based on its stable mate – the A5 sedan.

The turbo-charged engine offers more power than its previous edition. In terms of Audi’s well renowned all-wheel drive system, the 2018 Audi Q5 packs a punch as it offers primarily front wheel drive whose rear wheels can be utilized in no time if traction is required. Interior:

This car adorns leather upholstery and fits in 4 people comfortably. Shift paddles accompanies the heated steering wheel. It also boasts of ventilated front seats, four-way lumbar support and an eight way power adjustable front seats. The spacious headroom and legroom are worth a mention here. It is possible to slide the rear seats forward and backward to open up more legroom.

Audi’s upholstery has always been top notch and the details can be seen in the way everything has been precisely put in place be it the stitching or the quality of material used. For this class, the cargo space in this car is also very decent which would be 26.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats. The seats rear can be split folded in 40/20/40 and this enables us to use this extra space as cargo space when required.

The exterior looks more or less like before but with a few changes. For instance, you notice a change in the shape of the grille, and the headlights. The Audi Q5 does have a much sportier look than before.

In terms of style, it definitely is conservative. The surface seems to be the same but the subtle changes are underneath the metal. Standard HID/optional LED headlights flank the shield grille and this makes for a distinct visual change from the older versions. At the rear the car sports a tailgate.

The overall design is a touch of luxury and class.

Performance:

The standard engine is a four cylinder, 2.0 liter turbocharged engine capable of generating 252 horsepower. This is paired with a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission – an upgrade is however available with an 8 speed automatic transmission and a 354 horsepower V6 engine.

The 7 speed transmission has been found to give smoother transitions than the 8 speed transmission. In terms of acceleration, it is a match winner like its predecessor. The fuel economy has improved and now offers 23 mpg in the city and 27 miles per gallon in the highway. Driving this car is enjoyable and refreshing. The different modes it has are Dynamic, Comfort, Sport and Individual. The steering can still be improved.
