1. uninstall the old graphics card software by going to the “add or remove” programs and features menu. Highlight the card’s driver and click uninstall; follow the onscreen instruction when asked if you want to reinstall, click “No” and shut down the computer.

2. unplug the computer, and remove the power cord from the tower, the monitor plugs directly into the graphics card so make note whether the monitor is plugged into the computer then disconnect the monitor from the tower.
