Another tragic, sad news as a ten-year-old Anthony Avalos was tortured and killed by his mother and her boyfriend for being gay.
Heather Maxine Barron, Anthony’s mother, was said to have starved and beaten him and could face the death penalty, along with Kareem Ernesto Leiva, her boyfriend for being involved in Anthony’s murder that took place at his home in California.
Anthony’s mom and her boyfriend are both charged with murder by the infliction of torture and might possibly face the death penalty if found guilty, but both of them pleaded not guilty on Wednesday, October 3.
The Deputy Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families, Bandon Nichols, stated that the 10-year-old said “he liked boys and girls” before dying on June 21.
The agency, according to NBC Los Angeles, opened 18 separate investigations into the household from 2013, and it included 88 allegations of child abuse, child neglect and sexual abuse.
It happened that, the deceased suffered from head injuries and cigarette burns all over his body.
Barron and Leiva are both charged with one count of child abuse and torture, while the child abuse purportedly included another victim, and Leiva faces a number of assaults on a child causing death.
Anthony was reported to have suffered from being slammed into the bedroom floor countless times, beaten, starved, regularly whipped with belts and chords, having hot sauce poured into his mouth and forbidden from using the bathroom.
The deceased suffered not only physical but mental trauma in the worst form ever.
Anthony was forced by his parents and his eight sisters and brothers to fight with each other.
Other kids between the age of 11 months and 12 years old were made to watch Anthony stay standing or kneeling against his will.
The court documents alleged that it got to the point when “Anthony could not walk, was unconscious lying on his bedroom floor for hours, was not provided medical attention, and could not eat on his own. During the five or six days mentioned above, all nine children were residing in the Lancaster apartment where the crimes took place.”
The motion states that when Anthony was rushed to the hospital, he was in full cardiac arrest and he required intubation because he couldn’t breathe on his own. The worst part, he had a brain bleed as a result of traumatic brain injury.
He’s had cuts, reddened eyes, bruises and abrasions from his forehead down to his feet.
Barron and Leiva claimed that Anthony’s death was due to an accidental fall and the court would decide their fate on November 27.
Some individuals attended Anthony’s funeral wearing superhero t-shirts, and one of the attendees was the ten years Old’s aunt Maria Barron who told PinkNews that it was “the perfect way to honor him. His favorite superheroes were Batman and Spiderman, and she also added that he could never choose.”`
