Bowel Obstructions

This disease will affect the intestinal wall and its thickness. Over time the walls may become scared and can block the flow of stool when it goes to leave the body. A portion of the bowel may need to be removed surgically.

Chronic inflammation can lead to open sores in the digestive tract which are known as ulcers. They can even affect other regions such as the mouth, anus, and the genital area.

This is when the ulcers will affect the walls of the intestines. They can also form between the intestines and the skin. If they develop in a certain area they can drain the content of the bowls onto the skin. This can lead to abscesses and infections. If not treated they can become very dangerous.

Often people will be given Corticosteroids or other medication that is used to reduce inflammation.

A person may also be given a disease that will help the immune system to stop the inflammation. These medications may change the way that the immune system functions and will allow a person to continue on with their life.

Sometimes antibiotics are used to help treat bacterial infections and balance the levels of bacteria that are found in the intestines.

If a person has diarrhea they can use over the counter medication to help them with this issue. It is important to replace any lost fluids to help keep the body hydrated and fight off dehydration.
