9 Amazing Egg Substitute for Vegans

Eggs so important not only because they are nutritious but because they always find their way into some of our favourite recipes.

It is so amazing how you would barely notice an egg when it is in your favourite pastry, but you just know that when it isn’t there something will taste not right.

In fact, if you’re thinking of what the glue that holds most of your favourite foods is, then I would love to inform you that it is eggs.

While a majority of people love eggs, there are also a group of people who cannot deal with this food for various reasons. Maybe because they are vegetarians and maybe for dietary reasons.

So if you’re a vegetarian or you love to try vegetarian diet once in a while, or maybe you run out of eggs or have a dietary restriction the substitute below are not only healthy but will make your favourite dishes with egg recipes taste just perfectly.

1. Mashed avocados

Before now I had heard someone talk about replacing eggs with an avocado and I just couldn’t believe my ears.

But now I know that a quarter cup of mashed avocado is a perfect substitute for an egg when it comes to baked goods. Amazing still, is the part where it can replace oil.

However, bear in mind that you may see some green particles in your finished goods so it is better for you to use an avocado in busier looking foods if you’re concerned about masking the green look.

2. Chia and Flax

Have you ever heard of a thing like flax eggs? well I never knew they were an actual thing but they are. To make your flax eggs, all you have to do is waste a tablespoon of ground chia or flask with 3 tablespoons of water.

After mixing your ground flax and water, you can set the mixture aside and allow the water to absorb so it can expand you can use this to thicken sources and also to replace eggs in recipes.

1/4 cup of almond milk or butter milk is a great replacement for egg. But we want to focus on the vegans, and that is why we are going to use almond milk instead of buttermilk as a replacement for eggs.

In your favourite egg recipes, when you’re using buttermilk include a few drops of almond and start to add thickness and tartness.

When it comes to doing the same work that an egg does in different baked goods, then you can compare a banana to an avocado.

This happens especially because once you take your eyes away from them, all of a sudden they are over ripened. Instead of throwing them in the trash, at this stage you can use them as an an egg replacement.

This might be a little difficult to believe, but nut butter makes a very amazing egg replacement.

All you have to do is add a little liquid of your choice like almond milk or water to 3 teaspoons of not butter or even seed butter. It works great for recipes that call for a nutty flavour and also requires the use of eggs like in cakes or cookies.

The next time you’re cooking any food that has a recipe that calls for rinsed or drained canned chickpeas, save the liquid as it will become useful. that liquid is called aquafaba and it has a similar texture to raw egg white.

Lot of people would rather just throw it away because they don’t know how much value it has to use aquafaba as an egg replacement you measure 3 teaspoons per egg if there is a sauce that requires it then you mustn’t whisk the aquafaba.

However if you want to bake you might need to whisk it to help create a fluffier texture.

7. Vegan egg powder

The good news about egg replacement for vegans is that you can get vegan egg powder off the shelf. All you need to do is go to your local grocery store or supermarket and search for any of the vegan egg powders.

When it is time to use them in your recipe is good the amount of powder you want and combined with water you can also use them as thickeners for soups and other foods.

Most vigan egg powders are made from tapioca flour, potato starch, baking powder, and psyllium husk.

The good part about this organic powders is that they have a long shelf life, so if you do not use them now you can be rest assured they would be safe for use for up to a year after purchase however always check for the expiration date.

Almost every home where there are children has a container of applesauce. So if you have one of those, you can easily take a quarter cup of it whenever you need an egg replacements.

They are not only amazingly tasty, they also prevent you from missing what actual eggs taste like in your recipe.

9. Tofu

Tofu is a wonderful replacement for meat but that’s not all it is also a perfect replacement for eggs in baked foods.

All you have to do is match a quarter cup of your silken tofu until it gets to an even consistency which you can then combine with your batter for baked goods. The most important thing is to make sure you get your tofu as fluffy as possible.

However, if what you’re looking to do is scrambled eggs then you can make use of firm tofu for that because they are excellent for scrambles.

Simply add some seasonings and whatever mix-ins of your choice, and you can serve it as a protein-packed breakfast for your family.

You don’t have to eat foods that don’t taste right simply because you cannot eat eggs for some reason. With these recipes, you have your favourite dishes well cooked and even tasting more amazing than they would have tasted if you used actual eggs.
