Entrepreneur: Developing a Positive Mindset
The way we approach our business depends on what goes through mind, even though we would like to separate business from our personal lives. Your mindset determines the way you see or handle your business.
Do you know that whatever happens to you in the physical, were first birthed in your mind? The mind is so powerful that it controls what happens in the physical realm including your business. Your success or failure in business occurs in the mind before it materialized. The good news is, you can control what goes on in your life by controlling what goes through your mind.
Positive thinking can give you confidence; confidence is one of the recipes you need to succeed as an entrepreneur. It reduces the possibility of getting stress-related disorders such as depression, hypertension, etc. keeping a positive mindset can and will change our businesses. Whatever you conquer in your mind; you can defeat in the physical so how do we develop a positive mindset towards a business?
Start your day on a positive note
There are a lot of competitions out there, small companies, and big companies all thriving to be the best. This alone is enough to put you under pressure, but you have to overlook the competition and think positive.
Don’t leave the house without giving yourself the good news; create a habit of speaking positive things to yourself and your business every day before leaving your home. It might seem weird talking to yourself, but it is the best way to stay your day.
Look at the mirror, and give yourself the good news. Let’s take for instance, “I am getting new clients today” and “I am the most intelligent person,” “today will be a good day,” etc. Even if you feel silly doing this every morning, you are gradually programming your mind and remember, whatever you think, you will eventually become. So never leave the house without telling yourself how great your company is.
Don’t forget the reason you started your business
When it gets rough, entrepreneurs tend to ignore the reasons why they embarked on the entrepreneurial journey in the first place. The more we lose focus on the business goals and objectives the more we get distorted and discourage.
Whenever you encounter a challenge, focus on the benefits no matter how little or big they are. For instance, your favorite tie you wanted to wear to a meeting gets spoilt; just see it as an opportunity to try out the other ties you have neglected instead of cussing and ruining the whole day. No matter how bad you feel, there is always something to laugh about. As the head of your company, whatever energy you bring to work will rub on your employees which may extend to your clients.
Learn from past mistakes
No one said its going to be a smooth ride as an entrepreneur; if it were, everybody would have been an entrepreneur. Don’t beat yourself about your past failure; there is no such thing as the perfect person, so you shouldn’t kill yourself for your mistakes. Nobody is above mistake. Learn from your mistakes and past failures. Just because you didn’t get the deal today doesn’t mean you should pack up and leave, it is all in the process of growing. Learn from your failures and move on. Don’t stare too much at the close doors that you forget to see thousands of open doors ahead of you.
Be mindful of what you say
The reason you are where you are today is because of what you said in the past; the words of our mouth are creative. Your words create your world; whatever you don’t want to see happening in your business shouldn’t come out of your mouth. Replace the negative messages with positives ones. Instead of saying “My business suck!” say “My business is growing, all I have to do is to put more efforts, encourage my employees to be better” don’t get tired of saying positive things about your business. If you don’t stop saying positive words irrespective of your current situation, you will start seeing good things happening in your company.
Focus on the present
When I say present, I am not referring to this very minute or the hour or today I am referring to the very moment. Just because you had a rough ten minutes with your client doesn’t mean the rest hours of the day will be miserable. Sometimes the cause of negativity originates from a memory of a recent event or the imagination of a potential future event. Stay in the present moment, focus on what lies ahead and forget about your past.
Watch the friends you keep
I guess momma was right after all when said we should mind the friends we keep. It doesn’t matter how diligent and focused you are, the people you surround yourself with have a way of influencing your thoughts, negatively or positively. If you are thinking negative thoughts most of the time, take a minute to evaluate the people you keep around. Surrounding yourself with positive people will help you develop a positive mindset. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, attend seminars, listen to successful entrepreneurs, read their success stories, etc.
Remember, it is not about reading or attending seminars; you have to put what you’ve learned to work. It is the only way you can get positive results.
