Genesis Framework Review
Welcome to yet another review on Geekized (funny name), I will be reviewing the theme and framework I like to use or I have been using since I got to know about it, The Genesis Framework by Studiopress.
What is Genesis Framework?
When I said genesis some people started thinking about the Bible :D, well that is not what we are going to talk about here. Genesis framework is one of the best wordpress theme framework on the market, this rock solid designed framework was developed by the folks at Studiopress (Copyblogger Media).
The genesis theme framework itself is like the engine that powers any site it’s been installed on, but I need a well design child theme.
What is a Child Theme?
A child theme is like a skin that covers the skeleton (framework) of your wordpress powered site. Here is a well detailed definition from WordPress.
A WordPress child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes allow you to modify, or add to the functionality of that parent theme. A child theme is the safest and easiest way to modify an existing theme, whether you want to make a few tiny changes or extensive changes. Instead of modifying the theme files directly, you can create a child theme and override within.
Awesome Features of Genesis Framework:
Search Engine Optimization
In addition, Genesis now supports Schema.org code, which allows you to output microdata in your site’s code. This enhances your site’s search engine optimization even further — as does Google Authorship identification, which Genesis makes incredibly simple. The Genesis Framework has always handled the basics of good SEO for you, like lightweight code for fast performance, and now it’s even better.
Responsive HTML5 Designs
How does HTML5 enhance your site? First, it’s the new code standard, which will make your site compatible with future changes to the web. Secondly, it will ensure cross-browser compatibility. HTML5 makes your site mobile-friendly by being responsive, and it will improve your site’s ability to deliver audio and video. And it’s completely extensible — wants your site to behave like an app? Go for it. Simply put, HTML5 is your site’s ticket to a truly state-of-the-art design.
You get unlimited support. Unlimited updates. Unlimited websites. There’s no “Developer Option”. One low price entitles you to unlimited support, updates, and domains you can build on. If you’ve got multiple websites (or client projects), Genesis offers unparalleled value and lots more.
Updating to the current version of Genesis is a snap. Everything is integrated, so you don’t have to call your developer.
Genesis offers features to make it simple to set up your site exactly the way you want it. And if you change your mind later, you’re just a few clicks away from creating new sections and functions. But unlike other frameworks, you don’t have to sacrifice performance for options.
Custom Widgets/ Layout Options
Because the Genesis Framework has been widgetized beyond just the sidebar, we developed some custom widgets for you to use on any area of your site. Here’s a list of the custom widgets available with the Genesis Framework.
The genesis framework itself cost $59.95 while the child theme + the framework cost $99.95 and can be used on any numbers of sites you own, also there are many free child themes available.
The studiopress support community is one I have never seen, they are great and ready to help you with a lot of genesis related problems. Also there are lots of blogs including this one you are reading that offers free genesis tutorial. Below are the communities I know about. Google+ community, Facebook Community, Official Forum.
