Google announced the 2017 iteration of its Android operating system (Android 8.0 Oreo) for smart phones and devices towards the end of last month, and since then different OEMs have been releasing lists of their smartphones that will eventually get an update to that version of Android. HMD Global, the company with the license to produce Nokia-branded smartphones, has also announced the Nokia smartphones that will get an update to Android Oreo.
The announcement was made by Juho Sarvikas, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global today on Twitter. According to him, ALL Nokia Android smartphones would eventually get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo. This means that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 will surely run on the latest version of Android.
All of our smartphones will upgrade to Oreo, Nokia 3 included. No comments yet on timing so that I don’t get into trouble 😊.

This is really good news for Nokia fans and users around the world, as budget smartphones do not usually get a mention when OEMs are outing lists of smartphones to receive a new version of the Android operating system. Even the Nokia 3 which is a budget smartphone launched for emerging markets would get updated to Android Oreo.
Other smartphone vendors like HTC have also confirmed their smartphones that will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update, and Sony has a list of smartphones in its Xperia line of smartphone that would get the update. Smartphones like the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact were announced and would come with Android 8.0 Oreo straight out of the box.
Right now, only Google smartphones like the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Nexus Player are running the latest version of the Android OS, thanks to Google’s beta program which allows those devices run an almost complete build of a new OS in return for reviews and feed backs from their users.
