Melani Brown has made her health her top priority as she decides to seek professional help for her mental health problem. The spice girls singer told the sun on Sunday that she plans to get further professional treatment since she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The singer said she had had an “incredibly difficult” past six months so she would be checking into a rehab facility in the United Kingdom.
“I’ve been working with a writer on my book, ‘Brutally honest’ and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” Mel reportedly shared. “I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain, but that is just a way a lot of people ask what is really going on.”
The 43 years old singer further said;
“Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol—it is underneath all that. I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do, but I am dealing with it.”
Mel B shared with the Sunday Sun that in the next few weeks she would be involved in a “proper therapy program”. Her private battles have not been so individual as they made headlines in the past few years. Mel B lost her father in March 2017 which could be counted as one of the hardest times for her, and also her contentious divorce battle with her former husband Stephen Belafonte.
The singer got a restraining order Against movie producer Stephen Belafonte in April. She stated in court documents that Stephen had allegedly been both verbally and physically abusive. Mel B claims that during her 10 years long marriage to the producer, he demanded that she “sexual intercourse with him and random women” and she insisted that her ex-husband threatened to release videos of some of the alleged sexual activity if she declined.
However, Stephen’s lawyer called the singer’s claims outrageous, and in November last year, Mel and her ex-husband reached a private settlement. As part of the private settlement, the singer had to withdraw her domestic violence restraining order against Stephen Belafonte.
Melanie has been gathering all the information she can on PTSD, and she tweeted on the 26th of August “Knowledge is power”. Added to the tweet was a link to a website detailing PTSD so that her followers can learn too.
The singer retweeted a post from her mom Andrea Brown, where she talked about her daughter’s decision to seek professional help for her post-traumatic stress disorder.
Andre Brown wrote I’m so proud of my daughter. She dares to face her demons head on and deal with them, I know what the hell she has been through, and I know what trauma she has suffered and still suffers.
Do not judge because so many people have PTSD and try and numb the pain any way they can. I am proud of her honesty, and I am pleased my daughter speaks out on a subject that affects so many people.”
