Microsoft latest Lumia mobile offering are official. The Trio of Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550 came official yesterday at a Microsoft event. The event of course was just a 2hour event power packed with a ton of Windows10 devices.
The biggest news for Windows phone mobile lovers was of course the unveiling of the flagship Microsoft Lumia 950 which replaced 2014’s Lumia 930, and the bigger 950 XL.
Microsoft Lumia 950
Microsoft Lumia 950 is the latest Windows mobile flagship so far made by Microsoft. The device features a 5.2″ QHD screen – the sharpest on a Lumia yet. The screen is an AMOLED screen with Glance screen and ClearBlack.
There’s a snapdragon 808 processor fitted inside along with 3GB of RAM. The cameras are a 20MP PureView sensor (1/2.4″) with 5th gen optical stabilization and Carl Zeiss optics (f/1.9) as it’s main shooter (rear camera). Microsoft says it can record pretty impressive 2K 2160p video natively with Lumia’s traditional Hi-Fi audio recording. The front is adorned by a 5MP/1080p camera for selfies and video calling, though there isn’t a front-facing LED flash.
The new Lumia 950 tags along with USB Type-C and wireless charging functionality. The device also features a 3,000mAh battery to power up the beast. Using the Type-C connector you can hook up the Display Dock, which gives you HDMI and Display Port video out plus three USBs.
Pricing of the new Microsoft Lumia 950 is put as $550, and it is expected to be available in November. Coming in both single and dual-SIM versions.
Microsoft Lumia 950 XL
Microsoft latest phablet the Lumia 950 XL features a 5.7″ screen with QHD resolution, with an AMOLED and Glance screen.
Of course, the Lumia 950 XL like all Microsoft made smartphones will run windows, actually the trio of offerings (Lumia 550, Lumia 950, and 950 XL) will run Windows 10 straight out of the box. The new Windows 10 looks a bit like WP8, but it’s noticeable Microsoft has done a lot to unify the software between Desktop and Mobile. Continuum which is desktop in your pocket is part of the tinkering done so far.
On the internals, the OS will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, which combines four Cortex-A57 cores at 2GHz, and four A53s at 1.5GHz, along with an Adreno 430 GPU to bear the load of QHD graphics. All these will work the device’s 3GB of RAM for ultimate end result.
Microsoft are not planning to risk over-heating (which the snapdragon 810 is known for), so, the have the Surface team fit in a liquid cooling solution often used in Microsoft’s tablets to keep the Lumia 950 XL running cool.
The new Windows Hello feature (currently in beta) uses the front-facing camera to recognize you and unlock the device.
The newly unveiled Microsoft Lumia 950 XL will cost around $650 when released and is expected to be go on sale November too, coming in both single and dual-SIM versions.
