Nigeria’s technological atmosphere is seeing some improvements lately, first it was MTN after the purchase of Visafone released its 4G LTE network in Nigeria, and they also have 4G plans though your regular plan can still work. To check whether your current SIM and phone is compatible for 4G LTE access, text “4G’ to 131 and you should get a text telling if either or both your SIM and phone are compatible.
Glo, (yes I mean Glo) also launched her 4G LTE service few days ago in 9 cities across Nigeria, they are Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Jos in Plateau State, Warri in Delta State, Eket in Akwa Ibom State, Benin City in Edo State, Yola in Adamawa State and Zaria in Kaduna State.

There are reports that Etisalat is also testing its 4G LTE network in parts of Lagos, so we should be expecting something new from them before the year runs out or early next year.
So far Airtel is the one left out from the big 4, am sure they are cooking something as well.
Though this is great news but what are these guys offering us? A modified 3G or true 4G? I don’t want a case where I will be using 4G and my download speed is 3kb to 100kb/s.
Right now am using spectranet who claims to be offering 4GB and my download speed is less than 1.3MB/s, uploading a document is even worse. I hope NCC will put these guys in check so they can offer us value for money.
