The recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S8+ is considered by tech analysts as one of the best smartphones available right now, thanks to its bezel-less design and powerful specs. OnePlus, the consumer-friendly OEM is planning a response to the S8+ with its upcoming OnePlus 5, and a recent leak of the smartphone’s scores on benchmarking site suggests that the OnePlus 5 might be faster than the Samsung Galaxy S8+.
The OnePlus 5 is rumoured to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which powers most of the top phones on the Geekbench score listing. As revealed by the listing, the OnePlus 5 beats the Snapdragon-835-powered variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8+, along with some other smartphones powered by the same chipset.
The OnePlus 5 tops the list in the multi-core test, snagging a score of 6687, compared to those of its direct competitors (Apple iPhone 7 Plus – 5564, Galaxy S8+ Snapdragon – 6375).
The smartphone also did well in the single-core test with a score of 1963 but lagged behind the iPhone 7 Plus and the Exynos-powered variant of the Galaxy S8+. This isn’t really surprising as the Samsung Galaxy S8+ with the Exynos 8895 processor had previously bested its counterpart with the Snapdragon 835 chipset.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium which is also powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor got a single-core score of 1929 and a multi-core score of 6084, but these weren’t enough to beat the OnePlus 5.
Other things that can be derived from this Geekbench score listing is that the OnePlus 5 will run on OnePlus’ custom UI version, Oxygen OS which would be built upon Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the latest version of the Android OS.
These listings and leaked specs show that the OnePlus 5 will be a very wonderful device, but we also have to remember that none of these have been confirmed officially, so it is safe to hold them as speculations until more reliable info comes out.
