According to reports trailing Samsung, the foldable phones could hit shelves later this year. According to reports, the CEO of Samsung’s mobile division DJ Koh said that the device is in works and “it is time to deliver”
Apparently, Samsung has been carrying out consumers survey to show if there is a kind of market for that kind of device and results have prompted Samsung to speed up with their work. Samsung is also trying to make the user experience different from that of a normal tablet
“You can use most of the uses … on foldable status. But when you need to browse or see something, then you may need to unfold it. But even unfolded, what kind of benefit does that give compared to the tablet? If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it?,” Koh said at the IFA electronics show in Berlin last week.
“So every device, every feature, every innovation should have a meaningful message to our end customer. So when the end customer uses it, (they think) ‘wow, this is the reason Samsung made it’.”
Koh also hinted that more details of the device could be unveiled this year at the Samsung Developer Conference in November in San Francisco. The CEO also admitted that while the process is complicated, the company has almost concluded it.
Samsung is not the only company looking to build a foldable phone as LG is also interested and Xiaomi has been rumoured to be interested in Samsung’s foldable screen. Below is a Samsung ad on its foldable device.
