The Rage About Leaving Neverland and Michael Jackson’s Complicated Legacy

Michael Jackson

There are so many strange things about the death of the legendary pop star Michael Jackson almost ten years ago. Not only the part where we are not sure what exactly happened to him, even though that too is bizarre but the fact that Michael had existed for decades in a state of celebrity limbo.

Still as one of the world’s most famous people and a highly talented artist but also as someone whose oddities and uniqueness hardly could ever overtake his genius in the eyes of the public.

As soon as Michael Jackson was gone the outlandish money troubles, the inexplicable behaviour, as well as the lingering accusations anti-belief held by some people that the singer at her abused children even though he was found not guilty of molesting a boy during a criminal trial in 2005, did not all disappear all of a sudden from people’s memories. Also, there was no truly the compiled account of the latter half of the legend’s career that left all that trouble out.

However, Jackson’s Musical legacy took center stage one more time, with different artists who have not been seen with Michael for ages travelling from all around the world showing up to pay tributes to the star at musical events and even award shows. Michael’s contribution to pop music no doubt fetched him much deserved appreciation and endless praises.

For thousands of fans, bringing up Jackson’s molestation accusations counts as a taboo and slur against one of the talented artists that ever walked the surface of the earth. However, there is no better time to explain why the whitewashed version is the star’s legacy has never sat well with many other people.

During a screening on Friday morning, a large audience uploaded leaving Neverland at the Sundance film festival. Leaving Neverland is an op sparring and raw for hours documentary that details alleged abuse suffered by James Safechuk and wade Robson at the hands of Michael Jackson when they were only children.

Counsellors were made available to speak with anybody who was upset by the movies xplicit depiction of sexual abuse involving children. John Cooper who is Sundance director make sure to inform the audience beforehand. It was treated by different journalist midway through the film that what they had watched so far was very disturbing.

Meanwhile, law enforcement was strategically positioned outside just in case protesters who are of the opinion that the movie is trafficking in lies and exploitations got out of hand.

A statement released by Michael Jackson’s estate earlier this month in response to the documentary states that “This is yet another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson. Wade Robson and James Safechuck have both testified under oath that Michael never did anything inappropriate toward them. Safechuck and Robson, the latter a self-proclaimed ‘master of deception,’ filed lawsuits against Michael’s estate, asking for millions of dollars. Both lawsuits were dismissed.” Adding that “This so-called ‘documentary’ is just another rehash of dated and discredited allegations. It’s baffling why any credible filmmaker would involve himself with this project.”

The film festival also issued it’s own statement in response to that of Jackson’s estate, saying, “Sundance Institute supports artists in enabling them to fully tell bold, independent stories, stories on topics which can be provocative or challenging.”

Tito Jackson’s eldest son, Taj Jackson, started a GoFundMe campaign to finance a counter-documentary series which he says will “conclusively destroy decades of salacious myths which have been told and sold about Michael Jackson ad nauseum.”

The expected series by Taj Jackson will show the “definitive historic record of the most discussed aspects of Michael Jackson’s private life, placing the most controversial stories under the microscope, tracing their origins and dissecting how and why the media’s narrative diverged from the truth.”

As at Monday night, Taj Jackson has been able to raise $32,700 from the goal of $770, 000 that he set.

Taj responded to the hundreds of supportive tweets that have been pouring in over the weekend after the premiere of leaving Neverland. In his Sunday tweet, Taj said “I’ve been sitting here reading all your messages & I hear U & feel U. My uncle would be so proud of us. I thought now would be a good time for an update because a lot of you are feeling helpless. Please don’t. Hold your head up high & stay proud. Show the world your love for MJ.”

During a question and answer session after the screening of the leaving Neverland documentary on Friday, Robinson was asked what he had to tell people who think he told lies in the documentary. He replied, “I don’t feel like there’s anything that I need to say to them except that I understand that it’s really hard for them to believe. Because in a way, not that long ago, I was in the same position that they were. So I understand, and we can only accept and understand something when we’re ready. Maybe we’ll never be ready, maybe we will. So that’s their journey.”

Safechuk also said “From the get-go.there was no money ever offered [to do the movie], and we never expected anything. It was really trying to tell the story and shine a light on it, to give people the same connection and comfort [Wade and I have] got going through this.”

The leaving neverland documentary comes on the heels of the recent documentary series titled surviving R kelly which despite the multitude of allegations of underage sex abuse that have been levelled at r kelly over the years seems to have become the tipping point regarding professional fallout. R Kelly’s career has taken the turn for the worst ever since the release of the documentary and even sony music has parted ways with him with other artist stating how they regret ever collaborating with the singer.

Well, a lot of people have claimed to be done with r kelly and a lot more people are cutting ties with him there is still a minute sect of people who feel he is unfairly treated.

R Kelly’s lawyer told ABC News that people shouldn’t be able to do this to someone he was referring to the accusations pointed out by the surviving R kelly documentary.
