🦌Antler Joseph Dowling November 1, 2018 8lbs 12oz • Deer have been shown to us throughout our entire pregnancy journey- from before conception until the day Antler was born. • The antler has long been tied to the annual death and resurrection of the sun. The antlered stag represents wisdom, nobility, protection, and the cycle of death and rebirth. • Since Jenilee and I have been together we have been reborn many times. We together have been through death, great change, disappointment, happiness, and now birth. The deer shown to us reminds us to trust that no matter how dark things can get, the sun will always come back to shine. • The name Joseph is a tribute to the life of Jenilee’s Father who passed away within the first year of our relationship. • Welcome our little one to this beautiful rainbow family 🌈 We have felt so supported from our community and we Thank you ALL for your continued love and support! • • • • #antlerbaby #antler #newborn #rainbowbaby #lgbtqaifamily #lgbtfamily #firstborn #fatherhood #father #dad #daddy #transdad #transdaddy #ftm #transgender #trans #aydiandowling #positivity #positivevibes #radicaloptimism
Downling is the first transgender man in history to have featured birth on the front cover of gay times and men’s health magazine.
Dowling who is a motivational speaker and transgender rights advocate got married to the mother of his son Jenilee Dowling in 2012 and the couple has since been an inspiration to other gay and trans couples with Aydian having a massive Instagram following of over 180,000 people.
In one image showing the new birth dressed in a dear-themes outfit Antler Dowling explained that he and his wife chose the name of their son because the animals “have been shown to us throughout our entire pregnancy journey. Since Jenilee and I have been together we have been reborn many times,” the new dad wrote. “We together have been through death, great change, disappointment, happiness, and now birth. The deer shown to us reminds us to trust that no matter how dark things can get, the sun will always come back to shine.”
He also explained that baby Antler’s was given the middle name Joseph as a tribute to Jenilee’s father, who they lost in the first year of their relationship journey.
Dowling proceeded to share another photo of his son dressed in a lion king themed outfit and pointed out that the piece of clothing was the first thing Antler wore after birth. “This was Antlers first item of clothing he has ever worn” Antler’s dad wrote.
“And yes—I couldn’t wait to get it on him (even tho he’s been pretty much naked since then haha). Oh and yes—this is the beginning of a flurry of baby photos from now until well probably forever.”
In August 2016, the motivational speaker battled with Instagram transphobes with a series of Instagram posts when he said he had been told on to many occasions to put on a shirt.
“It’s a pretty common thing said to me,” Dowling wrote. “It makes me wonder—is it because I was born female that so many people insist having my shirt off is me being ‘topless’?
Dowling also compared himself to cisgender men who, according to him, receive less criticism whenever they post topless images of themselves “no matter the age, size, colour, anything.”
He stated further: “But once transmen who work their ass off to AFFORD top surgery start posting shirtless photos—it’s now seen as ‘too much’ or ‘topless.’”
Congratulations to the Dowling family.
