Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 With Almost Non-existent Bezels to Be Announced on September 11

Xiaomi made waves in the tech world when it launched the Xiaomi Mi MIX smartphone bezel-less smartphone with a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3% last year, as the phone practically had no top and bottom bezels, and placed the front camera lens and earpiece placed below the screen. Even though it was called bezel-less, it still had very slim bezels on the sides. This is about to change, however, as the company has revealed that it will announce the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 to succeed the Mi MIX with a bezel-less display.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Concept

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is not as secret as the original Mi MIX was however, as it has been in the news and the subject of many teasers and leaks before now, unlike its predecessor which was only heard of for the first time by most people on the day it was announced together with the Xiaomi Mi 5S flagship smartphone.

The company just sent out invites for the Mi MIX 2 launch event which indicated that the phone would have very minimal bezels as the company is calling it 2.0 bezel-less display. The Mi MIX has its outstanding design thanks to French designer Philippe Starck, and Xiaomi has brought him on to design the Mi MIX 2.

Philippe Starck also recently released a concept video showing the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 with its front camera on the right side of the bottom bezel. This indicates that the company is planning to use the same Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system that it used in the Xiaomi Mi MIX in place of an earpiece, in the Mi MIX 2.

In terms of specs, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is expected to come with a curved AMOLED display, promising to be better than the LCD display tech used in the original Mi MIX. The display size would, however, be determined by what lengths the company decides to take the bezel-less-ness to.

Some have said that the Mi MIX 2 would feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor placed under the display thereby allowing the fingerprint scanner to function wherever the display is touched, but this is very unlikely as the technology is quite expensive and would make the pricing of the phone over the top.

All these speculations would be confirmed or refuted when the smartphone is announced at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium on the 11th of September.
