What’s NIN?

The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique 11 digit number that identifies you as a Nigerian and is given to you when NIMC completes enrollment in the National Identity Database (NIDB).

It can never be reassigned, issued or used by another person once a NIN is allocated to an entity, which makes it special in nature.

All citizens and legal Nigerian residents are eligible to register for their NINs in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above.

What is NIMC?

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is the legislative body created by the 2007 NIMC Act No. 23. The body has the mandate to set up, own, operate, maintain and administer the National Identity Database in Nigeria.

They are to register individuals covered by the Act, to grant a Unique National Identification Number (NIN) and to issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to Nigerian citizens as well as to those who are Nigerian citizens.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I have my NIN number confirmed?

A Transaction Slip is issued upon successful enrolment. You will then be told when to come and collect your NIN. When you receive your NIN, a second slip is given, called the National Identification Number (NIN) Slip. Your 11 Digit Number is in the top left corner of the NIN Slip, second row. It is also possible to dial * 346 # and click 1. Please notice that N20 will be billed to you.

Am I going to pay for checking my NIN?

Yeah, you will only need to pay N20 when dialling * 346 # and then pressing 1.

Is it possible to register for NIN at any of Glo’s offices?

No, it is not possible, you can only register at NIMC offices or enrollment center. For a list of enrollment centres, please visit the NIN website.

I’ve lost my NIN card or slip, so how do I get another one?

Please visit any bank around you as the first step. Pay at any bank nearest you a token of N500 via REMITA. Next, provide any NIMC Enrolment Centre (ERC) near you with your Remita Teller and request a NIN slip print.

When my NIN is not captured, will my line be blocked?

Yes, it will. All telecommunications operators have been ordered by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block all unpaired lines with the NIN number by 30 December 2020.

On my bank app, I was able to see my NIN number, so why is GLO charging me N20?

As a confirmatory message will be sent to you upon dialling the code, this is a billable service. For all networks, the USSD code works and attracts a bill once NIN request is successful.

Are there NIN private centres where I can register?

The federal government announced that 173 private centres and 30 state government agencies nationwide had been authorised to register Nigerian citizens for the National Identity Number (NIN).

According to a statement released by the National Identity Management Commission, these centres and government agencies were authorised by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr Isa Ali Pantami (NIMC).

Conclusion

To link your NIN with glo, all you need to do is follow the instructions provided above and wait for a reply from your service provider. Also, note that your NIN registration must be done in time to avoid losing your number.
