Infinix Note 7: Specification, Feature, and Price

Infinix Note 7

The Infinix Note 7 is the new top of the line phablet announced by Transsion’s Infinix Mobility brand. The smartphone is Infinix’s flagship smartphone for its Note series. The smartphone was announced in early April 2020.

The Infinix Note 7 comes 10 months after its predecessor the Infinix Note 6 was released. While there was no event (probably due to COVID 19 scare), the official Infinix site just started listing the device.

One notable omission in the official photos is the Stylus pen. Infinix Note devices have always had a Stylus pen since the Note 4. Maybe Infinix has another pro device that will feature the Stylus pen else this will be a huge bummer to Note 6 users who may have wanted to upgrade their devices.

Without further ado, here are the features and specifications listed in the Infinix Note 7 and how it differs from the Infnix Hot 6.

Infinix Note 7 Design

In the tech space, a lot can happen in 8 months and the wild difference between the Infinix Note 6 and Infinix Note 7 is proof. At first glance, we get a nicely fitted punch-hole camera in the display (named Infinity-O screen). This is different from the bezels found on the Infinix Note 6. Also, the chin is also smaller on the Note 7.

The Infinix Note 7 phablet is also bigger as it stands at 6.95 inch, compared with the 6.0 inch size of the Infinix Note 6.

At the rear side of the phone, you will find a round round-shaped camera module design inspired by the Nokia, Motorola and Huawei P30 series. The camera module houses four cameras (quad camera) in a square arrangement and an extra flashlight. The Infinix Note 6 was released with a triple camera setting.

One noticeable change is the lack of the fingerprint sensor at the back of the Infinix Note 7. The camera module being a little bit bulky has occupied part of the position the rear fingerprint sensor is fitted. This time, Infinx moved the Fingerprint sensor to the side of the phone (right-hand side).

There is no in-display fingerprint sensor thanks to the display not being AMOLED, which is a shame really, seeing that the NOTE series happens to be the Infinx flagship devices.

The base houses the speaker outlet, a dedicated mic, USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone also has some nice color options available.

Display

The Infinix Note 7 is no small device as it packs a towering 6.95 inch display. This time though, Infinix stepped down from the AMOLED display used by the Note 6 down to IPS LCD panel that isn’t even Full HD.

The display resolution stands at normal 720 x 1640 pixels. The Infinix Note 6 had a 1080p resolution. On the bright side, there is a 20.5:9 aspect ratio and a 91% screen-to-body ratio.

One would really hope for an Infinix Note 7 Pro device as the display specifications are poor if this is what Infinix has to offer us this year.

The lack of AMOLED display (which means all hope of an in-display fingerprint has been squashed) and Stylus Pen coupled with the meager 720p display found on entry devices does not befit this smartphone series.

Camera Specifications

The Infinix Note 7 packs the same 16MP selfie camera found on the Infinix Note 6, though one would hope the Note will perform better due to software upgrades and better AI algorithms it has over its predecessor.

Over to the rear camera aspect, the Infinix Note 7 packs the same main camera module as the Infinix S5 Pro and Tecno Camon 15 Pro. The main lens in the quad-camera setup is a 48MP shooter. The other lenses consist of a 25mm 2MP macro lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and an unspecified low-light video camera.

Compared with the Infinix Note 6 which had a 16MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera setting, the main camera module is a huge upgrade. Videos are recorded in 1080p at 30 frames per second.

Hardware Specifications (Processor, GPU, RAM, Storage)

The Infinix Note 7 hardware upgrades are quite significant as the smartphone makers moved from midrange chis to something much suited for gaming. The Infinix Note 6 was powered by the MediaTek Helio P35 power series chip, while the Infinix Note 7 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G70 game-focused chip.

The Helio G70 is an octacore chip with dual Cortex A75 chips clocked at 2.0GHz and hexa-Cortex A55 chips clocked at 1.7GHz. The G70 chip was released in 2020 and is power efficient. The GPU integrated into the processor is the ARM Mali-G52 MC2 with speed up to 820MHz.

The phone uses LDDPR4X RAM with 6GB space, clocked at 1.8GHz, making it very fast. Also, there is 128GB of Storage space available on the device.

Software and Battery

The smartphone is released with Android 10 Q running under Infinix’s own XOS 6.0 skin. The skin is heavily customized thus it comes with some third party apps.

For power juice, there is a 5000mAh battery on board and it comes with 18W charge.

Opinion/Conclusion

There are some things that tick me off on this smartphone. If the Note series is the Infinix flagship then it deserves more than a 720px display that isn’t even full HD. A 1080p resolution wouldn’t be bad. The display is clearly a downgrade when compared with the 1080p AMOLED on Note 6.

Also, isn’t it time to dump the USB 2.0 for a USB Type C? And the biggest question of all: INFINIX, WHERE IS THE STYLUS PEN? The Stylus pen has become a significant symbol on the Note series and dumping it now would be a bad idea, considering how poor the display is. Except, of course, they have a Pro/Premier device lined up.

Also, it seems like the phone is using 2.5D protection instead of the Gorilla glass that usually protects the Note devices. Infinix had always bragged about the Gorilla glass, and carefully omitting it from this phone’s specifications only shows that they have either reverted back to the 2.5D protection or probably using the old Gorilla Glass 3.
