Okey Bakassi was born on the 23rd day of October 1969, in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. He was born in the household of Mr. Livinus Onyegbule, who is a retired soldier, and Mrs. Felicia Onyegbule, who is a nurse.
He is the first son of a family of five. He is from Mbaise, a small town in Imo State, and is currently married with lovely kids.
He completed his primary education from the Alvan Ikoku Demonstration School in Owerri, Imo State, in the southeastern part of Nigeria, and he was able to obtain his First School Leaving Certificate.
After his primary education, he proceeded to Mbaise Secondary School in Imo State. He studied there for a brief time before he moved to Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, where he completed his senior secondary school and obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.
Okey Bakassi is a graduate from the University of Science and Technology, in Rivers State, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. There he got a Bachelors’s degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1992; in that same year, he was deployed to Lagos, where he served at the NYSC program NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORP.
Before he got into the University of Science and Technology, he wanted to study Theatre Arts, but the school was not offering the course, so he settled for Agricultural engineering.
Though during his school days, he was able to meet people who had the same dreams and goals like he did, so the formed a group “Theatre Kollegues,” and this group of people entertained the university community.
During his NYSC program, he was posted to the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB), and while he was serving there, he met with popular Nollywood movie producer and director, Zeb Ejiro.
Through him he was able to get a chance at his very first television production “Fortunes,” and he played the role of Nick, who was one of the Johnsons bodyguards
Considering the experience he gained from his days in the University, the various drama group he was part of, his little experience during the youth service days, and overall experiences, he decided to go entirely into the entertainment industry and pursue a career in that direction.
In his career days, he had featured in various movies and had done lots of stand-up comedy before he finally decided to go fully into comedy. In the year 2014, Okey won the best Actor in a leading role; this was at the 2014 edition of the Nollywood Award.
