On December 6, 1993, Reekado Banks was born, in Lagos State, Nigeria. The artist is the last child of the family. His father is a pastor while his mother is into catering services.

We can say that Reekado Banks was born in a music family, because his brother Temi Solomon is a music producer, while his sister, whose name is unknown at the moment, is a gospel music singer.

Reekado Banks grew up in Ikorodu, Lagos state, where he completed his secondary school studies in 2008. He later went to study at the prestigious University of Lagos, where he bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Strategic studies in 2014.

Before gaining fame in the Nigerian entertainment industry, the Afropop singer used the name “Spicy” and used to be a rapper before his brother, Temi Solomon advised him to focus more on singing.

The current name, Reekado Banks, is derived from the Spanish name “Ricardo” which means “Ruler of Kings” and “Banks”, which together means “to be rich in musical content”.

After graduating from Secondary school, Reekado Banks started his music career with the help of his brother. His brother also helped him record and produce songs and taught him basic concepts to understand in music.

In 2014, Reekado Banks’ brother, Temi Solomon, helped him submit his song to an online talent hunt hosted by Mavins Record owned by Don Jazzy. Fortunately for him, due to his talents and unique style of music, Reekado Banks got selected, which landed Reekado Banks a record deal with Mavins record label. He was unveiled alongside Korede Bello and Di’ja at Marvins Record label.

Reekado Bank’s first studio song on the record label was “Turn it Up”. He released the song the same day he got unveiled at the Mavins Record label, and the song featured the queen of the Nigerian entertainment industry, Tiwa Savage.

After his first single, Reekado Banks released another single, “Katapot”, and most people thought it was a song to diss Wande Coal and D’banj. But Don Jazzy refuted the rumors with a series of tweets, and Reekado Banks did the same in an online interview.

He then featured in the collaboration song “Dorobucci” released by Mavin Records on May 1, 2014. The song also featured other artists such as Don Jazzy, Tiw Savage, Dr. Sid, Di’Ja, Korede Bello, and D’ Prince.

Reekado has since released many other songs, including Katapot, Chop Am, Sugar Baby, Oluwa Ni, and many more. He has performed at numerous events and concerts after signing a recording contract with Mavin Records, and his albums are still topping charts.

Popularly known as “Reekaddicts”, Reekado Banks fans are indeed addicted to his style of music. The sensational Afropop hitmaker also has more to offer. He mainly contributed to the single “My Darling” by Tiwa Savage and the single “Ife” by Pasuma he featured Tiwa Savage.
