Skin cancer can happen to anyone. The fact that it is the most common form of cancer in the United States proves that.

There have been plenty of celebrities who have developed skin cancer at some point during their careers. Some of them survived it.

Others lost their lives to this frighteningly common and terrible illness.

People who have had this terrible illness will usually start checking their skin more often, wearing more sunscreen and hats, and otherwise trying to promote the importance of skincare.

1. Diane Keaton

This very famous and well-regarded actress has had squamous cell cancer and another case of skin cancer in her lifetime.

She now tries to promote a beauty regimen that features sunscreen, and talks about how tremendously lucky that she now feels.

2. Hugh Jackman

The actor who is famous for Wolverine sadly does not have his iconic character’s superpowers with regard to healing.

He had some simple blood on his nose and thought that the source wound was minor. It actually turned out to be basal cell carcinoma.

He has had multiple bouts of skin cancer since then, even as recently as early 2017.

He now helps to promote the sunscreen Pure Sun Defense and gets his skin checked all the time in order to avoid another episode.

3. Michelle Monaghan

This actress was experiencing a very powerful career moment when she developed skin cancer. It was her husband who actually encouraged her to get it checked.

She managed to recover and is still working today, but if she hadn’t gotten it checked, things would have been very different.

4. Witney Carson

Professional dancer Witney Carson discovered a small mole on her foot. It had the same coloration as a strawberry.

She thought it was something benign, but it turned out to be melanoma. Her surgery was a success, but she now has a large scar that serves as both a reminder and a warning.

5. Jimmie Johnson

NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson was getting treated for skin cancer shortly after completing the 83rd victory of his career.

This was basal cell carcinoma, which harms a deep layer of the epidermis. He cautioned a lot of his fans to use sunblock as a result.

6. Anderson Cooper

This famous journalist actually managed to get a skin cancer diagnosis when he was busy covering the historic 2008 American political election, so the timing was terrible.

He’s cancer-free and doing well at the age of 50, but his story should demonstrate that skin cancer does not occur when it’s convenient.

7. John McCain

This senator has actually experienced several cases of melanoma in his long life. His first case was in 1993. It took him six months to actually seek medical help.

This Arizona Republican senator spent less time avoiding medical care in the future when he experienced skin cancer in 2000 and 2002.

He developed a brain tumor in 2017, demonstrating that the senator has generally had bad luck with his health.

8. Bob Marley

After all this time, Bob Marley is still one of the most famous of all reggae musicians. He helped to popularize reggae music in the first place.

He is now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also died from melanoma at the young age of 36 in the year 1981.

His case should draw attention to the fact that the toenail is a place to check for signs of skin cancer, since his appeared under the toenail in a dark spot.

He didn’t want to amputate the toe for religious reasons. Before long, the cancer had metastasized.

9. Khloe Kardashian

It was in August 2016 when Khloe Kardashian realized that she had potentially developed skin cancer. This cancer turned out to be benign.

However, she ended up with another mole on her back, and she ended up having to get a full eight inches of skin removed in order to regain control of her health.

She told her followers that the quantity of skin made it painful but that it was a procedure that she could handle overall.

10. Kenny Rogers

He got treated for skin cancer on his face in the May of 2014. This man is an inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame, so hopefully, his multitudes of fans will listen to him as he urges all of them to get checked.

He’s a national investigative correspondent for NBC, making him just the sort of person who can draw attention to the horrors of skin cancer. His melanoma diagnosis was something of a life-changing moment.

He did help raise awareness about the importance of wearing sunscreen, although he has said that sunscreen brands that have an SPF, or sun protection factor, of more than 50 aren’t any better than the ones that are rated at 50.

12. Bethenny Frankel

American reality television personality Bethenny Frankel is another skin cancer victim. This growth on her face was a sort of basal cell carcinoma, which is a common type of skin cancer for sufferers to develop.

She got it stopped in time, but now she tends to wear big hats and puts sunscreen on her face again and again in order to stop these problems from happening again.

13. Melanie Griffith

Working Girl star and famous actress Melanie Griffith has had skin cancer on several unfortunate occasions. She has had basal cell carcinoma removed from her nose and additional skin cancers removed from her face.

14. Tamra Judge

Entrepreneur and reality television star Tamra Judge actually took an Instagram shot of her backside in order to show people just how simple and benign melanoma can actually look.

Hers looked so innocent that few people would ever have imagined that it was a true instance of skin cancer. She is now free from melanoma, but she still keeps getting full-body checks and encourages other people to do the same thing.

15. Summer Sanders

Team USA swimmer Summer Sanders has had multiple instances of melanoma, including stage 1 melanoma. She now tries to use her fame to promote skin cancer awareness, including with her own children.
