Recently Truecaller announced that it will now be able to auto-search contact information that is not saved in a user’s phone book for third-party messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Viber, Line and Telegram.

However, according to a post on its official blog, the user will only have to enable notification access to allow the app to look up such numbers. The company also published a step-by-step tutorial on exactly how to go about the process. So if you’re interested, here is how to go about it:

How to Auto-search on WhatsApp Using Truecaller.

  1. Open the Truecaller app, tap on the Hamburger Menu and select “Settings.”

  1. Choose the “General” option

  1. Toggle on “Messaging Apps”

That’s it! You will now be able to auto-search on messaging apps using the Truecaller app.

Truecaller which was developed by the Swedish company True Software Scandinavia AB, Truecaller is one of the universal apps in India. Although the software has its benefits, it has sometimes been described as a privacy nightmare by many because its crowd-sourced information about all those unknown numbers comes from just uploading users’ phonebook information and contact details to its servers.

A few weeks ago the company decided to make its caller ID platform more useful for its Premium users on Android by launching a “call recording” feature that enables users to record both incoming and outgoing calls.

Though, with Android Pie, Google killed the call-recording feature for third-party apps citing privacy concerns. Third-party software in rooted devices can still activate this feature, but that will leave many users out of the loop.
