List of PlayStation Consoles

List of PlayStation Consoles

You might be surprised when you see how many Playstation consoles and handhelds there are on this list of PlayStation consoles.

Playstation and Nintendo are one of my favorite system series, and I have had one since the first version.

So let’s get started. Get comfortable because this will be a long list, but it will be worth the trip down memory lane.

Here are all systems and handhelds made by PlayStation.

2. PS One

The PS One came out in 2000. It was a smaller and lighter version of the first PlayStation. It came out in July 2000, a good time because the PS2 wasn’t coming out in the West until October.

The same games are on a tiny game device that you could easily carry in your backpack to your friend’s house.

The PS One helped set the trend of making a “Slim” version of a game system a few years after the first one.

3. PS Two

In March 2000, Japan was the first country to sell the PlayStation 2. The US got it in October, and Europe got it in November. The PS2 was a sixth-generation system, and the Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube, and Microsoft Xbox were its main rivals.

Even though these gadgets were strong competitors, the Playstation 2 was the only game in town. It is still the best-selling game system of all time on the list of PlayStation consoles, with over 155 million units sold worldwide.

With over 10,000 games to choose from, it’s easy to see why the system was so popular. The PlayStation 2 was one of the most exciting consoles ever, and people were still amazed by it years after it came out. Sony had the PlayStation 2 for a total of 12 years before they finally chose to stop making it.

4. PS2 Slim

After the PS One was a hit, Sony came out with the PS2 Slim, a version of the PS2 that was smaller and thinner. It was smaller, thinner, and silent, of course.

The Slim also had an Ethernet port built-in, and all of the 10 Best PS2 Accessories still worked with it. Sony has made a few different versions of the PS2 Slim over the years, changing ports and adapters and making it smaller.

5. PS Portable

Next on this list of PlayStation consoles is PS Portable. Sony thought that making one of the best lines of home consoles wasn’t enough, so they also made one of the best handheld consoles.

The PlayStation Portable (PSP-1000), which came out in December 2004, was a rival to the Nintendo DS line. The PSP had a big edge in the way it looked and how good its graphics were.

The PSP could connect to the PS2, PS3, a computer, other PSP devices, and the internet through its built-in WIFI. This could be considered Sony’s first handheld game system since the PocketStation wasn’t much of a game console. But they were sure to do it again.

During its ten-year run, the PSP went through several changes. These changes included the PSP-2000, the PSP Slim, the PSP-3000, the PSP Brite, the PSP Go, and the PSP Street.

6. PS3

The PlayStation 3 came out in November 2006 and competed directly with the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

As you might expect, it had a lot of great technology when it came out. The PS3 was the first home video game system to store games on blu-ray discs. This was because the game files were so big.

When the Playstation 3 came out, it was met with some scepticism because it was more expensive than its competitors. However, as hit games for the system came out, its popularity slowly grew.

The PlayStation Network, which we all know and love, was also first available on the PlayStation 3. Like Microsoft, Sony was moving their systems towards an online world that made it easy to get updates and buy new ones.

They also added social media-like features to the console to get people to stay in touch and earn awards. Sony’s line of game systems moved into the modern era of home entertainment with the release of the Playstation 3.

7. PS3 Slim

Although the list of PlayStation consoles wasn’t enough, in 2009, Sony came out with a thinner new version of the PS3.

Slim versions of home game systems have always been popular, but the PlayStation 3 Slim did especially well when it came out. Everyone liked how the gear had improved and the price had decreased.

8. PS Vita

Sony’s PlayStation Vita is a small video game system from the second generation. It came out in December 2011. I can never forget this play station among the list of PlayStation consoles.

I love it because of a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore CPU and a quad-core SGX543MP GPU-powered Vita. It had a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, Bluetooth, WiFi, and an extra 3G connection.

People say Sony wanted to combine the best of small game consoles and the growing world of mobile games into one perfect portable gaming device. The Vita sold a lot in its first year, but after that, it didn’t get as much attention as was hoped.

Those sales numbers include the PCH-2000, which was the second version of the Vita and came out in 2013. The new model, called the PS Vita Slim, was smaller and lighter, and it had an LCD screen instead of an OLED one, which was cheaper.

 9. PS3 Super Slim

The “PlayStation 3 Super Slim” would come out in 2012 as the third and last version of the PS3. The PS3 sold a lot of units in its short time on the market while eager players waited for the next step in the PlayStation series.

10. PS4

This was the newest and best home video game system from Sony in 2013 among the list of PlayStation consoles. The new look was sleek and trendy. The different shiny and dull surfaces.

Also, those new DualShock 4 controls were amazing. When it came out in November 2013, the Playstation 4 had a new processor called the AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU). It was simpler than the PS3’s processor, but it was one of the most powerful at the time.

As expected, the PS4 made the Playstation Network and all of Sony’s other online services even more important. The PlayStation 4 was well accepted when it came out, and Sony seemed to listen to what gamers wanted and give them something even better than they could have imagined.

It was also said that the PS4 was much better than its competitors, the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, in terms of how well they worked. Over 106 million PS4s have been sold around the world so far. That makes it the fourth best-selling game system of all time, which is a good fit.

11. PS4 Slim

Yes, 2016 also brought a PlayStation 4 Slim. You know how this works by now: it’s 40% smaller, but the price stays the same.

And you can still play the best PS4 games, but now your entertainment unit doesn’t have to support as much weight.

12. PS4 Pro

The list of playstation consoles also contained this Pro. With gaming technology always changing and getting faster, it’s getting harder for home console makers to keep a good device on the market.

Well, Sony didn’t want the long wait for the PS5 to make players think that the Playstation was not a good choice between 2016 and 2020.

So, in November 2016, we got the PlayStation 4 Pro. Hardware upgrades for the PS4, rendering in 4K, better speed for PlayStation VR, and all the internal power boosts you might expect.

This made games run faster, easier and put less strain on the hardware. It also gave older games automatic upscaling and framerate boosts.

13. PS5

Ending the list of PlayStation consoles is PS 5. The PlayStation 5 was Sony’s newest and best home video game system. It came out in November 2020. The PS5 came with all of the newest and best hardware features, so that’s not a surprise.

The PlayStation 5 uses solid-state memory to access game data more quickly. It also has an AMD GPU, a 4K display showing up to 120 frames per second, ray tracing, and 3D audio effects.

All of that power needs some pretty big ways to cool it down, and the PS5 and Microsoft’s latest machines have cooling systems that are almost the main attraction. The new DualSense controller had some cool new features in a home video game system that had never been seen before. For example, the triggers had haptic feedback and force feedback, which had never been seen before.

The Playstation 5 can also play many PS4 games. This is a trait that is becoming more common in the current generation of game consoles. The Playstation 5 will definitely shine and go down in history as one of the best home video game systems ever.
